Anyone who has underground sensibilities in Glasgow, an uncompromising city steeped in musically hedonistic heritage, will be aware of Sensu and it’s prodigious output.
Rooted, as they have been, in a club culture that doesn’t tolerate fools or fashion trends lightly, Sensu have risen from humble beginnings to a consolidated residency at the highly renowned and rated Sub Club over the course of the last decade. Learning the hard way that success and self-actualisation does not come easily, Sensu has been afforded a consistent and creative evolution that today culminates in the creation of their eponymous record label.
In keeping with their Clydeside ties, the new label endeavours to raise up and reach out to burgeoning local artists and music makers close to home, helping to showcase the unique sounds and rhythms that epitomise the cutting edge compositions coming out of their city. Through this exciting new venture Sensu set out to introduce and give insight into the music they love. The first release is from Affi Koman, real name Max Raskin, starting proceedings as Sensu means to go on.
Affi is a Glasgow based producer, DJ and resident at the cult Sunday Circus, a collective infamous for throwing their long-lasting, day-after-the-night-before affairs. He regularly makes his presence felt at the most credible club nights and parties in and around the label’s home town. As with the imprint he breaks ground for, Koman has been making music for the last ten years with two previous releases already to his name. Drawing inspiration from Hawtin’s DE9 - Closer To The Edit work with regard to the deconstruction of previous productions, the reassembling of intriguing new forms dominates his modus operandi and leads to this latest offering. The Champagne Breakfast EP puts forward the titular track on the A-side, ably abetted by In Love and its dub remix Love Dub on the flip. An uplifting track which keeps on giving, the new release has already been subjected to test runs in the critical environs of a packed Sub Club and has proved worthy of the plaudits so far received.
